Photo Smorgasbord!

Smorgasbord...what the heck kind of word is that?! Anyway, here are a few more pictures of local places, wildlife (or life that is not so "wild" maybe) and culture to keep the Honduran tourism market booming.

This first shot Megan took while I was attempting to play a traditional Garifuna drum. The Garifuna are people that live on the North coast of Honduras, whose ancestors were African slaves brought over by the Spaniards when they ransacked Latin America. With them came a lot of African culture, so they play really interesting music and have unique styles of dancing, etc.


#2 is a street shot from Valle de Angeles, a small tourist village outside of Tegucigalpa with a lot of charm. They make beautiful hand-carved wooden boxes here, as well as leather goods and paintings.

#3 is a picture taken at a shop in Valle de Angeles where they sell the wooden boxes. This is just one room in the shop of about 15 more rooms. Not a good place for the indecisive.

What post would be complete without a shot of Tegucigalpa's most revered animal specimen - the vulture! These guys circle the skies all the time here, and if we're lucky enough, they land on the roof of our apartment. This one stood still long enough for me to catch his 'good side'.
