Bugs and Soup

This morning Megan and I headed out with the 7th grade class to a small village outside Tegucigalpa in order to catch some insects. Megan gave them a class project where they each have to catch 20 different insects, pin them, and then place them in their respective scientific orders. It's awesome to see them so excited about "doing science" - even the girls are getting into it! We'll post a few pictures of some of the projects when they finish.

After the bug safari, we went over to a friends house to try a Honduran speciality. It's called sopa de mondongo, and it's basically a vegetable stew with one other special ingredient...cow stomach! Luckily, our friend had made the soup with only a limited amount of "tripe" (stomach) so we didn't have to endure the chewiness very often. It was actually a lot better then I imagined it would be, and so far neither of us has had to make mad dashes to the bathroom. That being said, I think today was the first AND last time we'll be slurping down a bowl of sopa de mondongo.

A big congratulations to my sister, Melanie, for being hired as a 4th grade teacher in the Tecumseh school system! She's been waiting a long time for a change in her job situation, and now it has finally paid off. Felicidades!

Yeah dude, I had to do a bug collection in 11th grade advanced biology and we had to get like, 100 bugs from 30 orders or something like that. It changed my life!!! I still have it under my bed at my parents house....

That's good because we'll need other friends who won't just glaze over when Megan starts to explain what she's studying in grad school. NERDS UNITE!
